The RMIT University Student Union (RUSU) is the sole student-run organisation at RMIT, fully operated by students for students. Each year, a group of student representatives is elected to lead RUSU, ensuring that the union remains a voice for the student body and addresses their needs. RUSU plays a key role in enhancing student life by providing a range of services, support, and advocacy across the university.
RMIT University Student Union Incorporated identification number: A0114140A As of the 6 October 2021, RUSU is an incorporated organisation, verified under Section 8 of the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012. View the full certificate.
Supporting Our Students: A Year of Unprecedented Impact, Community Engagement, and Student Wellbeing
RUSU is made up of several departments, each focusing on different aspects of student life. These include Activities & Events, Student Rights, Clubs & Societies, Welfare and Education, Postgraduate, Queer, Women, Sustainability, Indigenous, as well as RMITV and Catalyst Magazine. Through these departments, RUSU organises events, advocates for student rights, supports social and academic clubs, and offers platforms for student expression and engagement.
Join a club, attend events, or contribute to platforms like RMITV and Catalyst Magazine. RUSU also advocates for student rights and supports all students through our Postgraduate, Queer, Indigenous, and Sustainability departments. Get involved and make the most of your RMIT experience!
Every student at RMIT contributes to the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), but have you ever wondered how that money is used? The great news is that 100% of your SSAF fee is invested back into enhancing your student experience. From funding RUSU’s representation of your voice on campus to providing essential services like Compass and Student Rights, your SSAF fee plays a crucial role in making RMIT a better place for all students.
