ELECTION NOTICE
 

Nominations for the following positions for the RMIT Student Union elections for the year 2017 open on Monday 14 August 2017 and close at 12:00 noon on Friday 18 August 2017.
 

RMIT Student Union Council

  • General Secretary
  • Education Officer
  • Welfare Officer
  • International Officer (i)
  • Postgraduate Officer (ii)
  • Women’s Officer (iii)
  • Queer Officer (iv)
  • Indigenous Officer (v)
  • Activities Officer
  • Sustainability Officer
  • Clubs and Societies Officer (vi)
  • Vocational Education Officer (vii)
  • Brunswick Coordinator (viii)
  • Bundoora Coordinator (ix)
  • City Coordinator (x)
  • Brunswick Representative (xi)
  • Bundoora East Representative (xii)
  • Bundoora West Representative (xiii)
  • City Representative (xiv)
  • Five (5) General Representatives
  1. an international student
  2. postgraduate student
  3. female student
  4. one student or two students, who identify with different genders, on a joint ticket
  5. student who is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who identifies as such and who is accepted as such by the community in which they live or formerly lived (Eligibility will be determined through the Ngarara Willim Centre)
  6. student who shall be or has been an office bearer of a Student Union affiliated club or society
  7. a student enrolled in any Vocational Education programs or course
  8. student enrolled in programs at the Brunswick campus
  9. student enrolled in programs at the Bundoora campus
  10. student enrolled in programs at the City campus
  11. student enrolled in programs at the Brunswick campus

How to Nominate

Nominations must be made on the official Nomination Forms available from Assistant Returning Officers located at the Student Union Offices at Swanston St, Carlton, Bundoora and Brunswick Campuses.

Nomination Forms can also be downloaded from the RUSU website www.rusu.rmit.edu.au

Nominations must be lodged no later than 12 noon on Friday 18 August 2017 with an Assistant Returning Officer located at Student Union Offices at:

  • Swanston Street - Shaun Taliana (Bld 12 Level 4 RUSU Office) Monday - Friday
  • Carlton - Ganesh Sundaramurthy/Andrei Ghoukassian (Bld 57 Lvl 4 RUSU Office)  Monday - Friday
  • Bundoora - Shiba Swaminathan (Bld 204 Lvl 1) RUSU Information Counter Monday - Friday
  • Brunswick - Alaina McMurray (Bld 514 Lvl 1) Monday - Wednesday

Note: A separate nomination form must be completed for each position.
 

Candidates Student Cards

Candidates are asked to submit a photocopy of their current student card with their nomination.
 

Candidates Photographs and Statements

Candidates may submit a policy statement and a photograph of themself for publication.

Policy statements and photographs are to be submitted in electronic format and forwarded to rusu.elections@rmit.edu.au and must be lodged no later than the close of the nomination period.

For Student Union Council positions, policy statements must not exceed 400 words for officer positions, 200 words for General Representative and NUS positions and 250 words for team statements.
 

Election Regulations

The rules governing the elections are set out in the RMIT University Student Union Constitution and RMIT University Student Union Regulations. A copy of the regulations and section 11 of the Constitution will be made available to students when requesting a nomination form. These documents are also on the RUSU website www.rusu.rmit.edu.au
 

Ballot Paper Draw

Draws to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot papers will be conducted at the RUSU offices, Building 57 at 12:00 noon Monday, 21 August 2017.
 

Application to Register Name of Electoral Teams

Applications for the registration of an electoral team must be submitted by the close of nominations.

Team names and requirements shall be in accordance with RMIT Student Union Regulation 5.6.4.

A proforma for the registration of a team name is available from the Assistant Returning Officers at City, Bundoora and Brunswick campuses and can be downloaded from the RUSU website www.rusu.rmit.edu.au
 

Polling

Polling will be conducted from Monday, 4 September 2017 to Friday, 8 September 2017.
 

Postal Voting

Applications for postal votes are available from Assistant Returning Officers on all campuses.
